What Irish ecommerce brands
really want from their 3PL

Findings from 25+ interviews with Irish ecommerce brands in 2026, on what separates a fulfilment partner from just another vendor.

23% of consumers will never order from a retailer again after a poor delivery experience
41% of consumers blame the retailer, not the carrier, when a delivery fails
69% are less likely to shop with a brand again when a 2-day delivery promise is missed
Finding 01

The word that came up most was not "speed" or "price"

Before any specific questions about operations or cost, brands reached for the same language unprompted: peace of mind, trust, confidence, weight off our plates.

They are not describing a logistics service. They are describing freedom from having to think about logistics at all. And the brands who feel that most strongly are, almost without exception, the ones growing fastest. Operational confidence is what frees a founder to focus on what actually builds the business.

When I don't have to get involved a lot, that means everything is working. That's what peace of mind means for me.

Operations Director, premium skincare brand

"Trust is huge. You're trusting a company with all of your stock, all of your growth."

Head of eCommerce, luxury fragrance label

"Whenever we ask, they're always nice, always polite, always fast to respond. That gives us peace of mind."

What good fulfilment actually unlocks

The brands who found a fulfilment partner they trusted went on to do things they couldn't before. One brand doubled in size. One founder moved abroad and ran the business from a laptop. One eliminated an entire category of customer service complaints.

None of them directly attribute this to their 3PL. But none of them say it would have happened without one. The value is not what the warehouse does. It is what you can do when the warehouse is not your problem.

"I was packing the boxes myself. Backbreaking work. I would never go backwards to packing boxes again."

Founder, natural supplements brand

"I moved to Spain in 2024 while I could run the business from a laptop."

Founder, premium wellness brand

"Orders dispatch unbelievably fast. That results in 5-star Trustpilot reviews for me."

Founder, Irish gifting brand

"Logistics is that supporting function where you want confidence. Not a conversation you want to be having."

Co-founder, high-growth DTC brand
When we asked "what's the biggest value your 3PL gives you?" 3 founders answered the same way

"Peace of mind. Confidence."

Founder, health & wellness brand

"When I don't have to get involved, that means everything is working."

Founder, multi-market DTC brand

"Trust is huge. You're trusting a company with all of your stock, all of your growth."

Peak season is where trust is made or broken. And the planning window is now.

Every brand we spoke to peaks in Q4. The brands who had difficult peaks last year were still processing the aftermath months later. Confidence had dropped. Relationships were under review. Neither had a formal plan in place for the year ahead.

Those numbers above are not abstract. A 3PL failure during Black Friday does not just cost you orders. It costs you the customer. Getting a new fulfilment setup running properly takes 6 to 8 weeks across the market, and a strong partner can move faster. Either way the arithmetic is simple: with Black Friday now weeks away, a decision this month is the last calm window.

This is the week before Black Friday and we had no one dispatching over the weekend. I was looking at other brands getting faster delivery than ours.

Head of Operations, high-growth beauty brand
May
Ideal window to evaluate and decide Enough time to onboard properly, run parallel testing, and be fully operational before Q3 promotions begin.
Jun
Still viable A June start gives a July go-live. Works for most brands shipping into Q4.
Sep
Late, but possible Onboarding during the lead-up to peak increases risk. Anything that can go wrong during setup will go wrong at the worst time.
Oct+
Too late to switch this year At this point you are locked in for the season. Manage through it and plan properly for next year.

What the strongest 3PL relationships have in common

These are not the things brands list in an RFP. They are what they describe when the relationship is actually working.

Direct access to people who can fix things Not a helpdesk ticket. A named contact who knows the account and responds within the hour. "I'm never waiting longer than an hour to get an answer" appeared, almost verbatim, across multiple separate interviews.
A bias toward yes Brands often describe a single moment that sealed the decision: when they asked for something unusual and got a yes before the details were reviewed. That moment built more trust than any SLA document.
Dublin location for Irish and EU shipping Multiple brands switched specifically because Dublin proximity reduced delivery days on their most important routes. For brands fulfilling into Ireland and Europe, location still matters more than it should.
Proactive communication, not reactive updates The sharpest feedback from brands who had difficult peaks: everything was reactive. Chasing rather than being called. The strongest relationships work the other way. Their 3PL flagged problems before being asked.
